Philanthropy Engagement

Welcome to the page dedicated to increasing engagement of philanthropies in effective development co-operation. Here, you can network with like-minded community members, and find relevant resources, discussions and events.

WHY IS THE ENGAGEMENT OF PHILANTHROPY IMPORTANT FOR MORE EFFECTIVE DEVELOPMENT CO-OPERATION?

Philanthropic resources, including expertise, knowledge and financing, can complement development co-operation provided by state actors, allocating resources in ways that respond to community needs, including underserved or marginalised populations or regions. Philanthropic interventions are often seen as innovative and agile in the face of ever-changing circumstances, helping to build the capacity of local partners, fund and scale pilots, and support research, among other key activities, each with vast potential for increasing impact and supporting innovation. For this to happen, multi-level dialogue and coordination between foundations, governments, and other key development stakeholders are essential to ensure more effective global, regional and national development efforts.

Foundations bring together human, financial and technical resources to address some of the challenges faced by the poorest and most marginalised communities in the world. Using these limited resources effectively is critical to achieve our desired impact.
