Paving the Way for Formalisation of the Informal Economy

Based on the ILO Recommendation 204 concerning the transition from the informal to the formal economy into practice, the LO/FTF Council in collaboration with the ILO developed a publication addressing issues involving social dialogue, formalizing the informal economy, the integration of the informal economy in trade unions, social protection, child labor, youth unemployment and vocational skill. The publication outlines the results of the LO/FTF's international partners interventions focusing on the IE, and includes recommendations which can be used for inspiration in regards to organizing the IE in future perspective. Furthermore, various case studies regarding the trade unions' role in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Ghana, Togo, and Malawi etc. are presented. Finally, the SDG 8 is elaborated on, and the LO/FTF Council’s cooperation with trade unions in Africa is described.
